Got a question?
We know you will have lots of questions and we are here to help. Either check out our FAQs below or drop us a message and we will do our best to answer your query or find someone who can.
1. What is WG Futures?
WG Futures is a whole new way of supporting you into the future you want. Whether you know the type of career you would like or you want to explore all the opportunities available to you, WG Futures will help you both prepare and find that next step. Along your journey you will be supported by both staff at your school, who know you best, and also our Futures Team who can provide you with expert support and guidance to find the role that is right for you. WG Futures is not just a website, it is also a wide range of experiences and activities that take place throughout your time at school and even beyond. Everything combines to give you the best position possible to find the future that you want.
2. Is WG Futures for me?
WG Futures is for all pupils and students that attend a Witherslack Group School. Although a lot of WG Futures activity starts earlier, you can sign up to the WG Futures website from the age of 14. You will be supported to sign up and build your profile by school staff and our Futures Team.
WG Futures is also available for all Witherslack Group leavers too. You can register if you have previously attended a Witherslack Group school, even if it has been a few years since leaving.
If you are not a Witherslack Group student, we still want to be able to offer support and guidance to help you discover your own future. As you sign up to the system, you just need to select the ‘non Witherslack Group student’ option and you will be registered with our partner platform getmyfirstjob.co.uk, where you can benefit from the same type of support and find future job roles that are right for you.
3. How do I sign up?
You can sign up by clicking the 'sign up' button. It takes less than 10 minutes to set up your profile and once you are signed up you are ready to progress through the different stages that will assist you in preparing for your future. Throughout this process you will be supported by both staff at your school and our Futures Team.
4. Am I too old to register?
We do not have an upper age limit for applicants, as we know that at any age you may want more training or a career change. You may be completing your profile while you are still in school or already be one of our previous year’s leavers and now wanting to explore your next step, either way WG Futures is available for you.
5. How can I create my CV?
Once you set up your account and initial profile you will be guided through a number of stages, supported by school staff and the Futures Team. One of the first steps is to start to create your own CV and then you can constantly add to this as you gain more experience and skills. Your CV will then be ready for employers to review when you begin to apply for roles.
6. What else does WG Futures offer?
Aside from helping you create your own CV, you will also be supported to gain digital skills badges, prepare for interviews, including creating a virtual interview for employers to view, and to complete a careers quiz to better understand what future career options you may be suited to.
Alongside all of this, our Futures Team will work with you and your school to provide one to one coaching, mock interviews, employer experiences and just general support and assistance as you prepare for the next steps into your future career.
Importantly, the WG Futures system is also the place to search and apply for actual jobs. There is a huge range of roles and companies available to select from, which is changing and growing all of the time. Our Futures Team will support you through this process, giving you further assistance and also recommending you to employers and making suggestions about roles that you would be really suited to. Simply, we will be with you every step of the way.
7. What happens when I have completed all of the stages?
Once your preparation is complete, you are ready to search for opportunities and apply straight away. You will also be part of our 'live talent pool' which means that employers, training providers and colleges will be able to match you to local jobs that fit your interests. Our Futures Team may contact you by email, phone or text about roles you have applied for or are matched to, so make sure that your details are up to date. Our Futures Team will be there to assist in any way possible and help you with each step.
